Rising Stars: Meet Angel Grady

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Grady. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Growing up the preacher’s kid of a mother and a father who was formerly a DJ in the 80s, North Carolina Alternative Rapper Lovey The Don was no stranger to the music of any genre. Constantly feeling the oddball out in the midst of her peers, Lovey dealt with depression and anxiety early on and began writing music as an escape for self-expression.

This escape turned into a desire to empower others through music. Lovey is creating a whole new lane of her own. Having musical influences from Missy Elliot to Wu-Tang Clan and even Kendrick Lamar, settling with just one style has never been Don’s forte.

The lyricist’s cool, raw yet suspenseful tone has captivated listeners since her first project “The Futuristic EP” (2015). Anthems like “Intuition” and “STOOPID” are celebrations of women especially but everyone owning their dominance, uniqueness, and power, a common theme in Lovey’s music.”

Her latest project “The Don Mother released in April of 2021 and she’s currently revving up for the new year and is focusing on producing more thought-provoking music videos as well as new music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road and it still isn’t. I have been making music for a long time, approaching 10 years almost and I’m still not completely where I want to be yet.

I’m very open and transparent about my struggles with depression and addiction in the past and much of those personal issues contributed to the setbacks of my music career. Many artists can create through their pain and while this was possible for me at first, my life had spiraled way too out of control to the point where I couldn’t even create new music at times.

I had to take a lot of time out to get my life together before I could be fully invested again and I finally found my place again last year when I released “The Don Mother”.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I’m a music artist first and foremost but I pretty much do it all!

Being that I have no manager right now, I have to handle a lot of things myself so I’ve cultivated many skills that ended up developing into other passions of mine.

I write the treatments for and direct all of my own music video ideas which I absolutely love and want to do for other artists soon, I do creative direction, video production, wardrobe styling and I’m currently studying music production and engineering as well, so I’m kind of studying to be just an all-around jack of all trades, lol.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
This is a brand new year full of opportunity for personal and spiritual growth for us ALL and for that, I am hopeful and very passionate about bringing forth that energy into my new music this year.

I want my supporters to know how much I love and appreciate them for sticking by my side for all these years and that the absolute best is yet to come from Lovey The Don, so stay tuned.
