Rising Stars: Meet Ashley Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Denton.

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Modeling has always been something I’ve been interested in, even from a young age. People have told me all throughout my life that I should give it a shot. I am a true believer that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve anything you want.

It does take time, hard work, as well as some rejection, but little by little you grow. Your dreams slowly but surely start to come true. Some days I feel discouraged but I have to remember when the going gets tough, not to give up. I have amazing friends and family that support me every step of the way! I am extremely blessed and thankful for those in my corner.

I started my modeling journey when I was about 16 years old. I did a photoshoot for a local magazine by the name of “Triangle East Magazine”. I didn’t do much modeling after the magazine shoot for several years but I started getting back into it around 5-6 years ago.

I started out by connecting with local photographers. From there, it has blossomed year after year. I started walking the runway, modeling wedding dresses by various designers, in the Forever and Company Wedding Shows at the NC State fairgrounds. I recently signed with a local agency in the area and have started auditioning for acting roles.

I still have a long way to go to achieve my goals, but I’m excited to see where this journey takes me! I can’t wait to share my progress along the way!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been an easy road. I have definitely had my fair share of doubts about whether or not my dreams will actually become a reality. I have gone through spells where I didn’t model at all for months at a time. Life happens!

I have put a lot of hard work, time, money, and energy into modeling. There is a lot more to it than posing in front of a camera. Behind the scenes, I go shopping and pay for a lot of my own outfits, shoes, makeup, jewelry, hair products, and accessories. Any woman can tell you – those items are not cheap!

Sometimes, I have had only a couple of days to get an outfit together before a shoot.

Some shoots are paid but some are not. One has to remember regardless of whether it’s a paid gig or not, it is extremely important to build your portfolio, which is essentially your modeling resume. Building upon your portfolio shows others what you are capable of. You are basically branding yourself so always keep that in mind!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my professional life, I am currently a Customer Success Manager for an email marketing application. I have worked many jobs since graduating college in 2015. What I am currently doing now, oddly enough – I did not go to school for, so you never know where life will take you!

I am extremely blessed to have a good job and I’m excited to see where my career goes. I am proud of how far I have come both professionally and in modeling. I think what makes me stand apart from others is I always try to think about others before myself. I have a really good heart and I try to spread positivity wherever I go.

You never know what people are going through so it’s important to always be kind and understanding. I don’t judge others and I accept people for who they are. I just want to make the world a better place while I’m here.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I am a people person so I think that has played in my favor in all aspects of my life. I’m easygoing and laid back. I think many people enjoy working with me because of that and because I have a good attitude.

I’ve learned your attitude says a lot about you so try to have a good one!
