Hi Aurora, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the world of makeup began during the YouTube beauty guru era when I was a teenager entering high school. I was captivated by the skills and knowledge that beauty professionals shared, and I felt an irresistible urge to explore and learn as much as I could. Initially, I focused on experimenting with different looks on myself. After graduating, I started doing makeup for my friends in my mom’s bathroom. But Soon it turned into birthdays, & weddings.

A few years later, after navigating various job fields in search of a stable career, I found myself feeling unfulfilled. Then, I became a mom. After spending a year as a stay-at-home mom, I decided to fully commit to my passion for makeup. That’s when I chose to specialize in wedding makeup and special occasions, where I could combine my love for beauty with helping others feel their best on some of the most important days of their lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Pursuing my career in makeup artistry hasn’t always been easy, and I continue to face challenges. In the past, I’ve struggled with staying focused and motivated, particularly due to mental health challenges. Imposter syndrome and burnout are very real, and I’ve experienced moments of doubt about whether this is truly the path I want to follow. Like many aspiring entrepreneurs, I’ve also fallen into the trap of comparing myself to others.

However, when I take a step back and reflect on the moments that matter most—like when a bride is moved to tears during a bridal preview or the special time I had doing my grandmother’s makeup before her passing—I’m reminded of why I do this. What keeps me going is the impact I have on others, the way I can make them feel special and beautiful. That purpose is what gives me hope and drives my passion for this craft.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional makeup artist specializing in bridal and special occasion makeup. What sets me apart in the industry is my signature matte makeup looks and my extensive knowledge of products and the beauty industry. With a strong background in customer service and years of experience working in and around cosmetics, I’ve made it a priority to help my clients not only look their best but also feel their best. My approach is rooted in providing expert advice and personalized service, ensuring that each client has a truly exceptional experience.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
To succeed in the makeup industry, it’s essential to always be ready and willing to learn. With trends constantly evolving and new products being released, staying educated and on top of your game is non-negotiable. I began my journey as a beauty advisor, where I absorbed everything I could about skincare and cosmetics. At the same time, I invested in makeup classes from artists and professionals I admired. Networking and mentorship are crucial for building solid, long-lasting relationships and staying informed about the latest developments.

Although I’ve never had a mentor to guide me in scaling my business or growing as an artist, I’ve learned a lot through trial and error. Despite the challenges, I believe every artist or creative should prioritize finding role models in their industry to help navigate their career path and continue growing.
