Rising Stars: Meet Baily Rich of Wake Forest/Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Baily Rich.

Baily Rich

Hi Baily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have worked in retail most of my life and thru the years, I had worked in every aspect of the business. Before starting Baily’s, I was working as the GM and buyer for a local boutique (dress), and started to see a gap in the market for a small batch, affordable, on-trend boutique for Women of my age. It was at this time (late 2019) that I started looking at retail spaces to launch my own boutique, but Covid hit and I quickly realized I had to pivot. I had read about boutique trucks in other parts of the country and started to research what it would entail to build out and operate a boutique truck myself, and in January 2020, I purchased a 1985 Chevy StepVan off Craiglist and began the renovations. My boyfriend, Jesse, is in construction and he was able to help me create the space you see now. I opened my boutique truck in August 2020, and travel around the Triangle region and beyond bringing the shopping right to your doorstep! I bring the truck to large events and festivals, charity events, breweries, pop-up markets, house parties…anywhere Women want to shop. With new arrivals each week, there is always something new to see and my customers really enjoy the unique experience of shopping on a boutique truck. Over time, many other local vendors and small business friends started reaching out with questions about mobile business operations, and I again saw a gap in the market and began offering mobile business build out services as a branch of Baily’s. Our first client was Needle & Thread, a local designer, who was looking for a mobile storefront to take to music festivals. We finished up his build out in October of last year and they are hitting the road in 2025! We offer 4 tiered packages of mobile storefront options to meet every budget, and I believe that every business is a great candidate to go mobile. It provides a way to take your goods and services right to your ideal client, broaden your reach, and requires much less overhead than a brick and mortar storefront. We are opening our schedule this Spring for 2 more build out customers and I am excited to help other businesses go mobile! In the meantime, you can still shop and book Baily’s boutique truck in the Triangle area.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While we had a successful build out with my truck, it was a learning experience. We also ran into the issue of it being an old truck and I had to put more money into the mechanics than I first thought. When the boutique opened, I actually found I had no difficulties finding places to park and events to bring the truck to. Our area has so much going on, and Women were excited about this new concept! Also, I was a buyer in my previous job so I was familiar with how to buy inventory and I had those connections going into opening my truck. Three years in, I have found a good foundation and I am able to operate my year successfully knowing the best places to bring the truck and the styles and price points to carry. As I branch into building mobile store fronts for other business owners, the challenge has been getting the word out there and helping businesses understand the benefits of mobile store ownership.
