Today we’d like to introduce you to Belinda Brown.
Hi Belinda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started with a deep belief that dance and music can change the trajectory of a child’s life. I saw how the arts build confidence, discipline, creativity, and community, and I wanted to create a place where young people could experience that in a meaningful way.
That vision led me to start Expressions in Rhythm Studio. What began as a passion for teaching and mentoring children has grown into a community-focused, technique-driven performing arts studio where students we call “Expressers” are encouraged to empower themselves, inspire others, radiate confidence, and soar both on and off the stage.
Along the way, I’ve learned that building something meaningful requires resilience, leadership, and a willingness to grow. I’ve expanded the studio’s programs, built a team of instructors, and developed opportunities for students to perform, compete, and express themselves creatively.
At the heart of everything we do is our mission: to enrich the lives of children through dance and music lessons. Today, Expressions in Rhythm Studio is more than just a place to take classes—it’s a community where young people are supported, challenged, and inspired to stand out and become the best version of themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Building something meaningful rarely is. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges along the way, balancing the financial realities of running a business, navigating growth, and learning how to build the right team and systems to support the vision.
There were moments where I had to make difficult decisions about operations, pricing, and structure to ensure the studio could continue to grow and serve students well. I also learned quickly that passion alone isn’t enough. You have to develop strong leadership, clear processes, and a sustainable business model.
Those challenges have ultimately strengthened the studio and strengthened me as a leader. Each obstacle has helped refine our mission, improve how we serve our students and families, and reinforce why creating a supportive, empowering environment for young people through the arts is so important.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the founder of Expressions in Rhythm Studio, a community-focused, technique-driven performing arts studio dedicated to enriching the lives of children through dance and music lessons. Our programs focus on building strong technical foundations while also helping students develop confidence, discipline, and a sense of belonging. At the studio, our students are called Expressers because we believe every child should have a space where they feel comfortable expressing who they are.
I specialize in creating programs that balance strong training with a supportive environment where students can grow both artistically and personally. Our approach focuses not only on performance and technique, but also on character development, leadership, and community.
What I am most proud of is the culture we have built. Expressions in Rhythm Studio is more than a place to take classes. It is a place where students feel seen, encouraged, and challenged to grow. Watching our Expressers gain confidence, step onto the stage, and realize their potential is incredibly rewarding.
What sets us apart is our commitment to both excellence and community. We intentionally create an environment where students are empowered to learn proper technique, inspired to pursue their goals, and supported by teachers who truly care about their growth. Our mission and core values, Empower, Inspire, Radiate, and Soar, guide everything we do and help ensure that every student who walks through our doors knows they belong and that they can stand out.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I try to stay connected to resources that help me grow as both a leader and an entrepreneur. Reading and listening to thoughtful conversations about leadership, vision, and long-term impact helps me continue learning and refining how I lead.
Right now, I’m reading *Built to Last: Success Habits of Visionary Companies* by Jim Collins. The book explores what makes companies endure over time, and it’s been a great reminder of the importance of building a strong mission, clear values, and systems that support long-term success rather than short-term wins.
I’m also proud of our podcast, *Behind the Rhythm*. It’s a space where we share conversations about dance, creativity, leadership, and the stories behind the work happening at Expressions in Rhythm Studio. Through the podcast, we’re able to connect with our community, highlight the experiences of our students and team, and talk about the impact the arts can have on young people’s lives.
Resources like these keep me inspired and help me continue growing so I can lead with intention and create meaningful opportunities for our Expressers.
