Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Hough.
Hi Blake, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up In Miami, FL, and my family always went to festivals and concerts when I was younger. My family went to MLK Parades the most In Miami to see my cousin Jasmine who was a majorette for Miami Norland Senior High School, and I was Inspired by drumming mostly from those experiences. I moved to Davie, FL, and joined the band programs in middle school and High school as a percussionist. Early in High School, My Director encouraged me to perform as a symphony percussionist with an International Music group, “Florida Ambassadors of Music,” on a European Tour through seven countries. That experience led to me performing different drum events at Young Circle in Hollywood, FL like “Full Moon drum circle,” Miami Heat Street Band, The McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and I’ve been a percussion musician almost 18 years now. I went to college In Tallahassee, FL and started making music events for local artists; soon after, that got me interested in music business motivating me to create my own independent record label. After a couple years of learning music business, I decided to create my business “Blake Hough Entertainment” with interests In Performing Arts, Musical Instruments, Spectator sports, Fine Art, and Radio/TV Media.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of the personal struggles were based on factors completely out of my control like Hurricane seasons and natural disasters In Florida and trying to keep in touch with extended family affected. But the passive struggles of being an artist and musician looking for performance work, value from brand collaborations, and generally finding consistency from the music profession was a constant struggle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Music Publisher for my Independent record label, I’m a percussive and vocal performer, and I’m a music producer. I specialize In Percussion performance, and I’m known for General Music performance and Music business. I’m most proud of my Independent Record Label, having its 4th year anniversary this coming October 2023. The major factor that sets me apart from others Is my versatile interest; from music to fine art, to specific sports, to fashion, or even equipment, I learn and study a lot of complimentary communities outside of my own.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as a constant. If anyone Is able to constantly grow or gain, especially after difficulties, I’d consider that person another definition of successful.
