Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Howington.
Hi Briana , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started making wigs and doing my own hair in 2018. Once people started seeing what I was doing with my own hair, they would ask me to do theirs or make them a wig. That’s really how everything started and how my passion for hair began to grow into something more. In 2021, I decided to take the next step and enrolled in cosmetology school, graduating in 2022. Since then, it’s been a successful and rewarding journey of growth, learning, and building my business. If you would’ve told me back in 2018 that I would be where I am today, I honestly wouldn’t have believed you. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come, proud of everything I’ve built, and excited for what’s still to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship definitely has its ups and downs, so I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. Nothing about building a business is easy, and there’s no guide that tells you exactly what to do or prepares you for every challenge you’ll face. I’ve had moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and days where things didn’t go as planned, but I’ve grown from every experience. I think that’s one of the parts of entrepreneurship that people don’t always talk about the blood, sweat, and tears that go into building something of your own. You see the success, but you don’t always see everything that happened behind the scenes to get there. Every challenge has taught me something, made me stronger, and helped shape the business owner I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in natural hair and hair extensions, but I’m most known for my lace wigs. Creating a natural, seamless look is something I take a lot of pride in, and I’m always focused on making sure my clients feel confident when they leave my chair. What I’m most proud of is my growth. Being able to look back over the years and see how much I’ve grown personally, creatively, and as a business owner reminds me of what consistency can really do. I’ve learned that you don’t always see the results right away, but if you keep showing up, eventually you’ll look back and realize how far you’ve come.. What sets me apart is my hustle and my work ethic. I believe in getting up every day and doing what needs to be done, even on the days when I’m tired or things don’t go exactly as planned. Entrepreneurship requires you to be consistent, disciplined, and willing to keep going. We all get the same 24 hours in a day, and I try to make the most of mine. I’m proud of the fact that I continue to show up for myself, my clients, and my business every day.
How do you think about luck?
I definitely believe luck has played a small role in my journey, especially when it comes to opportunities and being in the right place at the right time. But I don’t believe luck is what has gotten me to where I am today. I believe preparation, consistency, and hard work have played a much bigger role. There have been opportunities that I’m grateful to have received, but I also know that I had to be ready for them when they came. I’ve learned that sometimes what feels like bad luck or a setback is actually preparing you for something better. So while luck may open a door, I believe it’s the work you put in after that that determines how far you go.
