Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Peele.
Hi Carrie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my first business in my late 20s on three credit cards, newly divorced, and two small babies. I knew the only way I could control my destiny, was to own my own company. Started a luxury car service. My first limousine, was the wrong color, the wrong size, and I made every mistake that could be made.
But fast forward 26 years and we were the largest woman-owned luxury transportation company in the Carolinas! In 2014 we went after the largest single event in NC, which was the US Open, did over seven figures in five days and sold the company on the last day.
It was the plan to sell the transportation company when we got the large contract. In 2015, started Mako Documents, a division of a multimillion-dollar medical laboratory. Mako Documents stores, scans, shreds, and manages a broad range of health information including medical records, business records, and radiology films.
Mako’s team is passionate about making an impact in people’s lives both here locally in North Carolina and around the world. Mako’s team spends thousands of hours volunteering with local nonprofits. Mako has donated millions in free medical services to those that don’t have access.
Mako currently supports over 472 local nonprofits and charities including military service dogs, homes for the blind, disabled, special needs children, horses for those who are paralyzed, and veteran’s cancer research. Mako employs military veterans for many positions and supports over 80 Christian missionaries around the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have made every mistake there was over the last 35 years, but I only made it once. Take the risk, if it doesn’t work out, learn from it and have a good memory.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a passion for mentoring and sponsoring other women in business. It’s what I was supposed to do. Help women be the captain of their ship. Carrie is the founder and CEO of Jade Lending, a capital fund supporting women and minority entrepreneurs in established businesses seeking working capital to achieve growth potential.
Jade Lending is a social impact lending platform whose mission is to support the growth of women/minority-owned businesses. We are not venturing capitalists or angel investors, nor do we require any equity stake in any business to which we lend. We provide loans on flexible terms along with a network for mentoring, resources, and referrals. Jade Lending is NOT just a loan, we are a community.
Carrie’s passion is all about paying it forward. She was the founder of Athena of Triangle; the win is to empower women as strong leaders in either multinational corporations or their own business ventures through the ATHENA Leadership Model.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love to cook… comfort food is my favorite. In 7th grade at Knoch High School, I was named Biscuit Queen, best biscuits in Saxonburg, PA. Carrie is married to David Franks the keyboardist for the Band of Oz. Has 2 adult daughter and 5 grandchildren.
