Today we’d like to introduce you to Cent Jones.
Hi Cent, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a visual Artist based in Mount Olive, North Carolina. I have been an artist all of my life. My journey through ART started as young as five years old and carried me through college. I received a commercial Art and Advertising degree and worked in many aspects of the art world. I concentrated on photography for many years and returned to my true passion of Art in early 2018. I enjoy the process of creating which puts me in the category of multidisciplinary. Today, I practice in many different genres of art. I create work out of my home studio as well as my downtown studio creating pieces that speak to life experiences..
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not. Being an artist is difficult. It’s a world full of gatekeepers and can be hard to navigate through passages that allow you to explore and share your creativity with the world. It can be even more difficult as a woman and of color. The opportunities for artist, especially those in small towns are very limited. You must be very strategic in how you operate in your craft. So knowledge of the business side is essential to growing and developing your brand.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am multidisciplinary artist who focuses on portraiture. I work in acrylics and oil and any other mediums that that excite my creativity. I move about in different genres from sneakers to clothing portraits to abstract. If I were to be known for a specific medium, it would be portraits. I love faces and learning the stories of peoples lives through different faces. My painting style of using bold colors and realism sets me apart from other local artists. I’m most proud of my journey as a female Artist coming from a small town with no art community. It is an ongoing journey that I am definitely buckled in to ride.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest supporters early on were definitely my parents. I have always had the greatest amount of support from an early age until today. In my early years, I was inspired by several art teachers, who gave me the inspiration to continue to follow my dream of being an artist. Fast forward to today. My family and friends are still the tribe that keeps me motivated. I’m thankful for each and every one of them for their time, encouragement and love for what I do.
