Today we’d like to introduce you to Cuzo Key
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well sheeeiiittt, I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. Moved just outside of the city to the town of Davidson, North Carolina when I was about 10 til I graduated from high school. Fell in love with music at a young age from always riding my mother listening to old school soul and R&B records. Started loving the production side of music when I learned how to beat on the school lunch tables with pens and pencils. Used to rap in a circle with my friends until one of my best friends passed away when we were seniors in high school so that somewhat sparked an idea to start going to the studio and recording soon after. Had put out a slight mixtape one day and majority of my peers said it sounds good and I should continue to make music. Then it just steamed roll into that whole NIONEK trilogy I had put together since 2016 til 2021. Had took some time off since then to get life in order, just had to get back to my peace and happiness. Still have ups and downs of course but this time I feel better about myself. Experience is the best teacher and I’m learning every single day. So now I’m back widdit! I just recently dropped my new project titled Everybody’s Favorite Cousin and I highly appreciate the love and support I’ve been getting from it. I’m super happy to back in such a good head space again!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Hell naw! It was never easy lol I grew up like ya typical black kid in the ghetto. Had to find ways to make happiness with the little that I had. Mom did her best when I stayed with her and so did my Dad. I didn’t have to want for anything but I also didn’t the things that I wanted that I seen everyone else had. So with that mindset, I didn’t even know that I growing up differently than others I was soo much into my own world with the environment that I was in. It wasn’t until I got older that it all made sense. I’ve always and still to this day have to make something out of nothing if I want peace and serenity while I’m still here on earth. Ain’t nothing free out and it won’t be any handouts so you gotta go get it yourself. Nobody owes you anything. Nobody is going to save you. Harsh reality but that’s just what it is so with that, please make the best with what you got. Nobody is perfect, folks mess up all the time, but there’s still peace and happiness to be found and kept!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a rap artist but I like to call myself a game giver. I’m big on communication because I believe most things and situations and be solve with a real and genuine type of conversation. I like to share my good and bad experiences with people through my music so they can relate and celebrate. I pride myself on being a genuine person. I love giving advice and also being a listener. I’m not perfect, but if I can give some helpful insight to someone and they receive it then my job is done. It’s always a positive to get help when needed as well especially since I’ve gotten better with asking for it. It’s good to have people in your corner no matter the relationship especially when it’s hard finding good people out here. That’s who I make music for. The genuine folks who keeps elevating themselves and striving for serenity. The Himalaya Playas!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see it being an umbrella of resources for my loved ones. I see it being that someone can be happy and proud to be apart of. Himalaya Playas isn’t about the materialistic things in life, it’s about elevating yourself to be a better person and reaping the benefits of your hard work. Always striving for the positive outcome and being prepared for the negative consequences of life. I just love seeing people win and achieve their dreams and goals. Whatever business I get into, I’ll make sure to do it with people I trust and love and the work with passion and confidence.
