Today we’d like to introduce you to Defacto Thezpian.
Hi Defacto, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music & performances were always a thing in my life. Even from an early age, I was fascinated with rhythms, dancing, and great music. A lot of my middle school career was spent in band or on writing poems. Sports, too. They just didn’t stick as much as The Arts did. Once I transitioned to high school and didn’t make the deadline for marching band, I focused on other endeavors.
Soccer was the only official sport I played in high school. By the time basketball and track tryouts were around, I had decided to dedicate my time and energy towards theater. Which, I found out quite early I had a knack for.
The only student by the time I graduated at Hillside High to receive 3 Star Actor of the Year awards.
Now, although I was doing quite well with acting… Hip Hop music had snatched my attention.
Made my first ” mixtape ” Freshman year. Picked it back up by Junior year. I didn’t take it serious until 2013, but ever since I have focused my entire livelihood and attention towards becoming one of the greatest artists to ever live.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, but I believe in Divine Timing. Everything that happened, was supposed to happen if I wanted to be where I am currently at.
I’ve had inner turmoil to account for. Drama with family, being homeless at one point. Having my music held from me by a producer for almost a year. Being blackballed through another person’s mistakes. Dishonesty. Betrayal. Being cheated out of money. Being cheated on show bills and performances. Flying to different states for shows only to be shorted on time when I arrive. Rap beef with other artists. Ending relationships with people who I once considered a friend. Having to dilute my visions and dreams on the account of others.
With all that being said, I’ve appreciated every single struggle because it made me stronger. Mentally. Emotionally. Internally.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
A lot could be said about “Defacto Thezpian”. I believe it just depends on how you encounter me in your life. I’m mostly known for my performances. I pride myself in stage presence, effort & energy on stage.
I’m a phenomenal Hip Hop artist. Capable of creating the most gorgeous pieces of art you’ll hear. I’m also a Creative Rap coach (I teach people how to rap better). I now… wait for it… produce! Going by my government name, working on stuff in silence. I engineer a little. I also write for other creatives and artists.
It sounds cliché, but what makes me stand out from others is the fact that I embrace who I am. An artist with a lot of knowledge, experience but still accessible. Compromise my integrity and morals for no one. While being a cool human being in the process. In this business, you run into many who just won’t be themselves. Try to portray an image for others to accept, but there’s beauty in acceptance of self.
I’ve thrived in that while also elevating my mindset, talent, and overall execution of what I do.
What were you like growing up?
I was the class clown. Bullied a lot. Different. Talented in many things but not knowing quite which path to endure and stumble upon. Even back then I just liked embracing my weirdness and unique traits.
Book worm but loved sports. Energetic and sometimes loud but also eager to learn. Searching for love in others but not skilled in how to express it. Tech-savvy but not the best at typing haha.
