Rising Stars: Meet Deysean “DK” Kelly of Charlotte

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deysean “DK” Kelly

Hi DK, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
To be honest, it all started after high school I was working a job that felt like everyday my potential being stripped away. My football dream started to get slimmer by the day as I wasn’t hearing back from any of schools wanted to play at. I was lost and even a little depressed I didn’t know what to do.

All until one day my homie “Lil Skii” called me and said ” I don’t know why I’m telling you this but whatever your thinking about doing just do it” this was a clear sign from GOD I started taking action with what I wanted to achieve in life. That was all the motivation I needed I started putting myself more out there to the community and started to taking my content creation more seriously with that start my own podcast called “Real Over Fakes Podcast” where no matter who you are and what we’re talking about we always keep real and authentic.

Later on I had got laid off from my job thoughts things were starting to take a turn again until one day this Artsit named “Tiffani D” invited me help her shoot content in Atlanta. We went to events called “Invest Fest” and “TCL Tournaments” with Revolt where I learned how to invest into a business properly and connected with a lot of main stream artists such as NLE Choppa, G Herbo, Waka Flocka, and many more. That night I went back to my hotel went up to the rooftop to sit in the jacuzzi after a long day. Thoughtfully at that very moment I decided to go all in becoming a Creative Director and Film Director full time.

I name my business “DKEDITS PRODUCTIONS” where any client gets high quality editing and visuals to bring your ideas to life. I started picking up more gigs and promoting my business more. One of my all time goals is to someday build a business and a play where new creatives can get more opportunities and be able to put them in position to win. Learning to trust the process is one of hardest part in this journey. I will soon achieve all my goal that I set for myself as one of my biggest goals is get Director of the Year. Even though the seems far I’m getting better and better everyday to achieve it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was always ups and downs in my life but one of the hardest parts is learning how to trust the process and continue to bring your best foot forward everyday. Some mentors help guide me and teaching myself everything I know such as editing, graphic design, color grading and more trick on how to bring out the best visuals possible.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Creative Director, Film Director, Videographer, Photographer, Editor, and Graphic Designer.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
When I first started I was taking free gigs to build my portfolio but at the time I wasn’t make any money I taking risk after risk I didn’t have a car I had to Uber to every gig and it was a tuff time for me but I pushed through and kept on going.
