Rising Stars: Meet Dj Meet of Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Meet

Hi DJ, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2008, my friend needed someone to DJ for him at the skate rink. I wasn’t doing anything so he had the bright idea for me to do it. I didn’t mind learning how to DJ for the sake of having the skill but I didn’t want to DJ for real. He taught me how to DJ in less than thirty seconds. That whole week I was practicing every day and that Saturday night I went up to the rink and DJ the session and it was awesome. The rest is history.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Doing anything is never a smooth road. It comes with life. The main struggle I have is not putting myself out there enough to over take some of the less skilled DJs.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been a DJ for 17 years. In the 17 years im most proud of never ever folding in the sense of undercutting other DJs or under mine the true essences of real DJing. A lot of DJs play every genre (open format) but what I specialize in is being able to go anywhere and play and be successful no matter the diversity in the crowd. Also taking this same concept and working this “tech” in the skate rink crowds. It’s not as easy playing in the rink as it is for a regular party or corporate gig. The music is specific and the flow of the music is different.

Any big plans?
I would love to rock a House/EDM gigs. I fell in love with House music and wish I listened when I was kid when I first got exposed to music..
