Rising Stars: Meet Elizabeth Pippin Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Pippin Nelson

Hi Elizabeth Pippin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with Milkin’ Cookie started after I gave birth to my second child, Clara, in 2021. Like many moms, I was looking for ways to boost my milk supply and after Clara’s birth I was gifted a bag of Milkin’ Cookie mix to help. To my surprise, the cookies worked wonders for me; and I say surprise because with my Son I had tried everything else. I struggled to make enough milk for Hunter and with Clara and Milkin’ Cookie, my milk runneth over so I knew I was onto something BIG and I needed more! When I went to reorder, I discovered the company was no longer selling products—but the entire business was up for sale. I’m a big believer in signs, and this felt like one so I connected with the original owner, who was moving out of state and looking for another mom to carry on her vision.

As someone who deeply believed in the product and wanted to continue helping other moms on their breastfeeding journeys, I bought the company! I’ve since worked to maintain the quality and integrity of the cookies, ensuring they remain preservative-free and filled with ingredients that truly support lactation. Running Milkin’ Cookie has allowed me to combine my passions for motherhood, community, and baking—something I learned from my Italian grandmother growing up. Now, I get to support other moms during one of the most rewarding yet challenging times of their lives, and that brings me so much joy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—taking over and growing Milkin’ Cookie has come with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was stepping into an existing business and making it my own while maintaining the core values that resonated with me as a customer. I had to quickly learn the ropes of running a food-based business … from sourcing ingredients to perfecting the baking process, all while ensuring the cookies remained free of preservatives and high in quality and efficacy.

Another challenge has been balancing the demands of being a wife and mom while running a business (actually 2 business … I sell Real Estate as well). There have been plenty of late nights and moments of doubt, especially when navigating the unpredictability of entrepreneurship. Keeping up with both family and business responsibilities has taught me to be patient with myself and to trust the process.

That said, the support I’ve received from my Husband, my friends, and all the moms in the community has been incredible and helped me push through those tough moments. Every time I hear a success story from a mom who says our cookies helped her on her breastfeeding journey, it reinforces that all the hard work is worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Milkin’ Cookie, we specialize in making high-quality, preservative-free lactation support cookies and cookie mixes designed to help breastfeeding moms boost their milk supply. We’re known for creating delicious, effective cookies using wholesome ingredients like organic oats, ground flax seed, chia seeds, and coconut oil—all of which are packed with nutrients that promote lactation. The fact that our cookies are free of preservatives is something I take great pride in because I believe moms deserve the best, natural products to support their breastfeeding journey. Each bag of mix and every cookie is hand made or baked by me.

What sets us apart is the personal connection I have with the product and the community. I’m not just running a business; I’m a mom who used and benefited from these cookies. I’ve walked the same path as many of the moms I serve, which allows me to truly understand their needs. That shared experience creates a deeper bond and trust with my customers.

I’m most proud of continuing the legacy of Milkin’ Cookie while bringing my own passion and personal touch to the brand. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’m helping other moms during such a vulnerable and important time in their lives, just as the cookies helped me. The feedback from moms who say our products made a difference in their breastfeeding journeys is what motivates me every day.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe that taking risks is an inevitable part of growth, both personally and professionally. Whether we realize it or not, motherhood itself is filled with risk-taking—decisions that impact not only ourselves but our families as well. When it comes to business, I’ve learned that sometimes the biggest opportunities come from the biggest risks.

Buying Milkin’ Cookie was, without a doubt, one of the most significant risks I’ve ever taken. At the time, I had no formal experience running a food business, but I was passionate about the product and believed in its potential to help other moms. I had to invest time, money, and energy into something that wasn’t guaranteed to succeed, all while balancing my responsibilities as a wife, mom of two and a licensed realtor. It was daunting, but the belief that I could make a difference in the lives of other breastfeeding moms gave me the courage to dive in.

For me, risk-taking is about trusting your instincts and being willing to step out of your comfort zone. It’s about weighing the potential for success against the fear of failure and realizing that even if things don’t go as planned, there’s valuable learning in the process. I don’t think of myself as a natural risk-taker, but I also believe that calculated risks are necessary for growth and innovation. Sometimes, you just have to leap and trust that your passion and hard work will guide you through.
