Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Ellis.
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. In 1996, I started getting all kinds of signs and confirmation to go to Raleigh, NC to start a church. In 1999, I quit my good-paying job and my family and brand new house and move to NC by faith.
Fast forward we have nearly 300 members a new church and sister churches in NJ and VA all called New Restoration Outreach Christian Center. I use to run a prison ministry, juvenile ministry, computer labs, retirement center ministry, financial workshops, youth ministry, cloth the homeless, feed the community.
In 2018, we found out our youngest daughter was addicted to drugs real bad. She overdose several times, and eventually, I was able to rescue her and place her in a drug rehabilitation center for two years. During that time I develop a hobby, I never knew I had to relieve the stress of ministry and my daughter’s drug recovery.
I started making beaded bracelets that took off in 2019. Now I have a bracelet business called ELUX (Ellis Luxury) sorority, fraternity, prof teams, college teams… Now my daughter has graduated from the program. Landed a great job in IT and back dancing in the church.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My youngest daughter was on drugs real bad back in 2018 but as of today she is drug-free and doing phenomenal.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a full-time pastor and I oversee two other churches. One NJ and VA. I oversee a church in India. I provide funding to build a school in Africa.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned how to bring hope and encouragement to many who have lost or lost hope due to losing a loved one due to Covid. I was able to broaden my ministry not just locally but globally due to social media because of Covid.
