Rising Stars: Meet Gabby Heron of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabby Heron.

Hi Gabby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2013 I had just turned 18 when I had my daughter, Skylar, Who’s the greatest joy of my life!
But I was still young and not ready to let go of my selfishness and still wanted to do what I wanted to do. In my early 20’s I spent some time away from my girl and my family. I was young, wild but definitely not free. I did learn so much during that time.
Like the fact that I have the greatest support system anyone one could ever ask for. My family is definitely not perfect but when it comes to being there for one another we do that very well!!
I also learned that I could find other outlets for my anxiety, depression, and adhd-THE GYM/exercise. I try to move my body every day in some type of physical exercise movement! My husband and I are HUGE disc golfers, we started playing during Covid as something to do to get outside and now have become obsessed! If you’ve never heard of this sport you should totally check it out !!!
My early 20’s were a huge learning lesson for me and I am so thankful for all it taught me and made me go through because I am definitely the person I am today because of it and because of the people I encountered along the way.
I graduated cosmetology school in May of 2021, and found my home salon, Poppy Salon, in September of that same year. Also In May 2021 I got proposed to by the LOML, Grant Heron, who happens to be an AMAZING barber in North Durham, at Jacks Barber shop. I have been at poppy for 5 years this September and I love it so very much. I love being able to teach other curly girls how to do their curls and also giving beautiful hair to my beautiful clients, not only am I creating amazing hair, but I’m also giving people their confidence back. You can see it come back on their face after their appointment, even if it’s just for a haircut and the connections that I make with my clients means so much to me. I am so grateful for where I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it hasn’t but I wouldn’t change it for anything . It’s made me who I am today !

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love anything curls, lived-in color aka LOW MAINTENANCE, and I love creating content !!! What sets me apart from others is I think my ability to make anyone smile and feel good . I never want anyone to feel
Left out or hurt. I’m a HUGE empath sometimes to a fault but I think it’s one of by best qualities

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
LOL! One of my favorite childhood memories because I have many I had an excellent childhood is whenever my Mawmaw dresses me and my sisters, Hannah and Maria and our cousin Avery up in leather pants and took us to the skating rink and I think we about died that day it was a million degrees in there !!
Or when we were otw back from a road trip as kids smushed in the backseat my sensory issues started taking over and I got completely naked lmaoo ! My sisters still bring it up to this day!
OK, last one, when me and my two older sisters would dress our younger brother Chris up and make music videos to show anyone who would watch them !
