Today we’d like to introduce you to Gene Hoskins.
Hi Gene, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been singing my whole life! I am the son of preachers, and music has been around me for as long as I can remember. My father is a singer, and my mother is a lover of music. I have been singing in church, and still do! For the last 6 years, I have been traveling as a background vocalist across the world. In 2019, I released my first musical offering early 2019, and my debut HOMECOMING early 2021.
I have been in mental health for over 12 years. I love it. I still love learning about it, training others, and seeing clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think anything worth having will test you! I believe it is so you can be sure that it’s what you really want. Opposition can make you question if the goal is really worth it… It is! I’ve had challenges that required me to defeat thinking that what I had wouldn’t be good enough. I have had injuries, and I’ve had to let go of people who were not meant to be with me long-term. These have been obstacles, but I have absolutely cleared them to get to the finish line.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a gospel/inspirational singer from N.C. I also happen to be a psychotherapist and practice owner in Durham, N.C. I get to write, sing, and perform inspirational music about Jesus. I also get help people process life, challenges, as well as treat mental illness.
I am known for singing with a lot of passion, range and energy.
I am known as a good supervisor, trainer, and clinician with my clients, workers, and co-workers.
My heart for people is what sets me apart with both of my professions. Realizing my purpose as a “healer” through inspiration has really helped me in each profession.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Create and produce what YOU see in YOUR heart and mind. The moment we change it, is the moment we alter its authenticity. Give it, how GOD gave it to you!
