Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarrett Blaize
Hi Jarrett, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I knew I wanted to be in the helping profession in some way shape or form. At one point, I wanted to be a teacher, a pediatrician, and even a lawyer. It wasn’t until I began working in an after school program with the Salvation Army and I realized how varying social environments impacted development and overall wellbeing. After much guidance, I decided to pursue a career in Social Work. Since then I have obtained a Bachelors degree in Human Development and a Masters Degree in Social Work, working various jobs in child welfare, case management, and inpatient social work. For years, I have desired to start a consulting business and a non profit. It was something I never felt prepared for and continuously put it on the backburner. It was not until I was terminated from a previous position, that I decided it was time to put myself first and take a leap of faith. In doing so, I finally cultivated Blaize Bureau Consulting.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The process to start Blaize Bureau Consulting was fairly easy. Once the paperwork was submitted to the Secretary of State, my business was finalized within a week. However, It has been one hell of a learning curve. I think getting the business off the ground has been difficult. Advertising, networking, outreach, etc. Finding people to believe in the work that I desire to do enough to give me an opportunity to conduct a workshop or training. There have been moments where I have felt defeated and second guessed my ability to do this, and there have been moments where I have felt empowered and excited to bring my work to Raleigh and North Carolina as a whole.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At this time, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Associate. I am only a few months away from taking my licensing exam! I have been in the field of Social Services for almost eight years. While in undergrad, I worked in a Halfway House to gain experience moving on to work in Child Welfare, Case Management, Inpatient settings, Private Practice, and Prevention. While I specialize in children and families, I am grateful for the experiences I have had thus far in my career as it has afforded me a well rounded experience and allows me to take an eclectic approach when practicing. If I had to say one thing I am most proud of, it would be my determination. I have also been determined to accomplish certain things within my career, and that same level of determination is what brought me this far; and I am excited to see where it brings me next.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would not be where I am today if it was not for my mentors, supporters, and cheerleaders! First, I owe a huge thank you and appreciation to my clinical supervisor, Maximilian Shafir who has guided me through this entire process of starting a business. He has motivated me during the times of doubt and celebrated even the smallest of wins. My closest friends Kayla, Chantal, Amyleth, Melissa, and Erika have been by my side every step of the way. My best friend Kayla recently started her own private practice, Broady Counseling, LCSW and she has cared for me and my business as if it were her own. Of course, my partner Unique… he gets an earful when I am feeling defeated and his support has carried me to another day and empowers me to continue to doe the work that I do.
In reality, none of this would be possible if it was not for my support system. My parents, my brothers and sister, my family, and my friends. They made this possible.
