Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Jones.
Hi Jeanette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
While growing up, I had never seen hair in my vision, being that dancing and modeling were my first and true love. But over the years, I started noticing I have a gift for hair. I started doing my friends and family’s hair from middle to high school. From my sister going to cosmetology school & me playing with her mannequin and learning from other people around me, I always caught myself learning whatever I saw and applying it. This was simply a hobby for me. Not knowing my name would take off! I started taking myself more seriously when I saw how many people began booking with me and supporting me. That gave me so much more motivation! That lead me to get my “Natural Hair Care Specialist” license and start working in a salon. I was so happy and blessed to have created from nothing and making into a legitimate business. I have an LLC and have been working for myself since 2017 (maybe longer). I’ve grown a huge clientele base & followers on social media by networking, traveling, and putting my name out there! I stayed doing different things to gain my audience’s attention, and I can honestly say, “your network is your NET WORTH.” I love what I do and wouldn’t change it for anything ! I’ve been doing hair for over 13+ years, and I still have a long way to go, but I thank God for how far he’s gotten me. Truly grateful for it all!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship with any business has its ups and downs, but that’s what comes with the business. It would be best to always have a plan B whenever your first plan doesn’t work out. Always have a policy or backup whenever your back is against the wall. When you start doing things the right and smart way, you’ll know how to handle them in the near future. I would say for me; my struggle is playing every role. The receptionist, the accountant, the graphic designer, promoting, bookings, sales, shipping products, etc. Even though I’ve been doing a great job organizing, a team would help along the way. It’ll take a load off of me, but there’s always room to learn and grow.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist specializing in extensions, sew-ins, wigs, braids, natural styles & more. I’m known for braids first, then my clientele grew tremendously for lace wigs and installs. I like to learn any and every style that’s trending to provide my clients with stylish looks. I’m proud of my growth with customer service, time management & creating content to show my skills. With social media growing daily, reels and videos are the best tools to use to gain your followers & new clients. I can say that my timing and sweet /vibrant personality sets me apart from other hairstylists. I love hearing, “wow, you text back so fast,” or “thank you so much for getting back to me,” or “you’re always so teachable “staying true to myself will always be my main goal. Because when you pour into yourself, you can pour into other people!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I don’t listen to as many podcasts as I should, nor do I read as much as I need to, but I can say I do research and follow people I can truly learn from. YouTube is my biggest source of information when learning “ANYTHING.” I feel like you will never fall short as long as you put the work in. I always say, “you learn something new every day “because you do. Even the simplest things
