Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Miller.
Hi Jen , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had a deep love for interior design—the patterns, the textures, the fabrics, and the way each element can transform how a space feels. Even as a child, I was captivated by how a room could come alive through thoughtful details, creating an atmosphere that felt both warm and personal.
That early passion never left me. I knew from a young age that I wanted to turn my love for design into something more than just a hobby—it was a calling. Over the years, I followed that spark and eventually founded Miller Upholstery Customs, a business dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind pieces and interiors that tell a story.
Today, Miller Upholstery Customs specializes in custom upholstery, headboards, ottomans, and fully personalized interior design projects. Each piece we create is designed with intention—crafted to reflect not just a client’s style, but their personality and way of life.
What began as a simple love for beautiful fabrics and inviting spaces has grown into a purpose-driven business rooted in creativity, resilience, and heart. Every project reminds me why I started—to bring comfort, joy, and a personal touch to the spaces people call home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my business wasn’t easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced setbacks—moments when it felt like everything might fall apart. But the hardest challenge of my life wasn’t in business—it was deeply personal. I experienced an unimaginable tragedy with my son, one that shattered my heart into what felt like a million pieces.
That kind of pain could have made me retreat, to step back from everything I loved. But instead, I chose a different path. I decided to let that pain fuel me—to pour even more passion, creativity, and purpose into my life and my work. I wanted my journey, and my business, to reflect resilience, love, and dedication.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Miller Upholstery Customs, we specialize in creating custom-designed upholstered pieces that bring warmth, comfort, and personality into any space. From luxurious headboards and statement ottomans to fully personalized furniture restorations and interior design projects, every piece we make is tailored to reflect our clients’ individuality and lifestyle.
Our focus is on quality craftsmanship and personal connection. Every fabric, pattern, and stitch is carefully chosen—not just to look beautiful, but to tell a story. Whether we’re reviving a beloved heirloom or designing a new centerpiece for a home, our goal is to make each piece feel deeply personal and built to last.
What we’re most proud of is the heart behind our work. Miller Upholstery Customs was born out of both passion and resilience. After facing the most difficult chapter of my life, I poured that emotion into creating something that brings others comfort and joy. Every project is a reminder that even in pain, there can be purpose—and that beauty can rise from hardship.
What truly sets us apart is our personalized process. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all design. We collaborate closely with each client to understand their story, their home, and their dreams. That personal touch—combined with our commitment to craftsmanship—means that every piece we create is one of a kind, made not just with skill but with genuine care.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice is to trust your journey—even when it feels uncertain or overwhelming. Starting out is never easy, and there will be moments of doubt, setbacks, and challenges that test your resolve. But those moments are where you grow the most. Stay focused on your “why,” because your passion and purpose will carry you through when things get tough.
I’ve learned that success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, persistence, and a lot of heart. Don’t be afraid to take risks, make mistakes, and learn as you go. Every experience—good or bad—teaches you something valuable that shapes who you become, both personally and professionally.
Most importantly, surround yourself with people who lift you up and believe in your vision. And always stay true to yourself and your craft. When you lead with authenticity and love what you do, it shows in your work—and that’s what truly sets you apart.
