Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Cummins.
Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hey guys. My name is Kayla, creator of Kayla Cummins LLC. I have been a registered nurse for about 5.5 years. I am super passionate about helping others and that keeps me going in these trying times for healthcare workers. On the other hand, I also have been very interested in personal finance for the past 3 years and I have shared details of my journey to financial freedom online in hopes of motivating others.
At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, I took advantage of travel nurse opportunities in New York, Texas, and many other states. I was able to help others in their time of need while also significantly increasing my income, allowing me to speed up paying off debt and my financial freedom journey.
Last summer, I created Kayla Cummins LLC where I offer virtual money coaching sessions to help educate others about personal finance. I talk with my clients about budgeting, debt payoff strategies, saving and investing, building credit, etc.
I really enjoy the time that I get to spend with individuals from all different backgrounds discussing their finances and creating plans together that are personalized to their specific situations.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Seeing that I am still nursing full time as well, I wanted to create systems to make my online virtual business as stress-free as possible. Once I had all of the online platforms up and running everything else fell into place easily.
I share a lot of financial information on social media and sometimes it is difficult explaining complex financial topics in an interesting and easy to understanding way on a few slides. I do put a lot of time and energy into creating content that is helpful and that makes these topics really click for my community.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I really do enjoy the work I do in my money coaching business. I believe, and have been told, that my transparency in my own finances makes the information I share more relatable.
As safely as I can, I share the details of my own financial journey, like debt numbers, net worth, etc so that my community can see I am on the same journey as them. I also really believe in sharing my mistakes so that I might save someone else from making the same ones.
At first, I felt I always needed to place disclaimers that the things I share are not to get recognition, but now I feel so comfortable sharing with my community and I know that my transparency and honesty are appreciated and helpful.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you have something that is valuable that you can share and enjoy sharing (or doing for service-based businesses) then absolutely go for it! Create your business plan and take action.
Do not believe that because there are others doing the same job that there is no room for you. God also gave you talents! Don’t hide them because there are others already doing it, you can provide value to your community too!
If you are just starting out on your financial journey, please please know that I am rooting for you! Take your time, figure out what systems work for you, and understand that personal finance is truly personal! There is no one size fits all, and you can reach your financial goals no matter your starting point.
