Rising Stars: Meet Larissa Simonds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larissa Simonds.

Hi Larissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a young girl, I remember watching my grandfather and uncle capturing life – whether it was a big moment or small, rest assured that they would have a camera around their neck. I would stand in awe each time they showed me their display screen with a shot they had just taken. It didn’t take long for my love for photography to develop. I got my first “real” camera at 16. It was a Nikon CoolPix, and I felt like the coolest person in the world! I would take photos of friends from school for $10 a person. Eventually, I saved up to purchase a nicer camera, then another, and another. I was addicted to say the least. Although I wasn’t the best, I kept trying, and clients kept coming. With each session, I became more confident and gained new skills.

In 2020, my business took off. I was able to pay for my college education with my income from photography and videography. The Lord has blessed me with a community of clients who make me cherish each photo I take. I am so thankful that this little hobby of mine has turned into a job that doesn’t feel like work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been easy, but I have been blessed through the ups and downs of life. I have dealt with Anxiety and Depression for most of my life. My faith keeps me going each day.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer and videographer. I specialize in lifestyle portraits and weddings. I feel I am known for my timely editing process and comfortable experiences I provide. I am most proud of my growth and ability to capture genuine in-between moments. I strive to provide stress-free and easy sessions that leave people feeling excited about seeing their galleries. I want each person to see what I see through my lens: pure beauty!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Some people may not know that I am a preacher’s wife. I have been with my husband for about 6 years, and we just got married last April. He is truly my rock – I couldn’t ask for a more loving and supportive husband.

I am also a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher, so I know ASL! I have many passions in life, and teaching is one of them. I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder in kindergarten; I struggled to feel safe in school. I lacked compassionate teachers who wanted to see me succeed. I was blessed with a select few who truly wanted the best for me; without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I want to be the teacher my younger self so desperately needed.
