Today we’d like to introduce you to Lia Handy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I first started creating art when I was a small child; I would go through notebook after notebook with my drawings. As I grew into a teenager and started taking art classes, I was creating any form of art that I could; sculptures, paintings, jewelry, you name it! I created Celestial Designs last year when I decided I wanted to start creating art that I could sell and that people could make use of. I thought that jewelry would be the perfect art form for me to truly showcase my style while also allowing my clientele to wear/use it.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say it’s definitely been hard, but there are certain aspects of this journey that have been easy. I work full-time to support myself and more so, take care of Celestial Designs on the side. It can be hard to find the time and energy to make new pieces for my shop or to make content to promote my art. However, the creative aspect of my jewelry comes very easy to me; sometimes, I feel like it would be impossible to create all of my ideas!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’d like to say I’m an artist turned jewelry creator, and I try to fit in any other forms of art that I can in between. I’m definitely more well-known for my jewelry at this point, as that is most of what I share and put on display at craft markets/events. However, I think my proudest pieces of work are my paintings. I love working with color, and painting, for me, is the best way I can do that. I think what sets me apart from others is my versatility; my art style is continuously changing and growing, and I try to bring different techniques to each piece I create.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my favorite memories from being a kid would have to be watching cartoons with my dad. I think that my love for cartoons definitely inspired some of my art; the colors, the different art styles from show to show. My all-time favorite cartoon is Scooby-Doo, which has heavily influenced my style and taste in art, even as an adult.
