Rising Stars: Meet Morgan Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Wright. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Morgan Wright is the music industry’s multifaceted enigma who is a self-taught multi-talented musician, DJ, and producer (known as THE WR1GHT) who is at the fulcrum of an evolving music scene. DJ Phoenix is a very different and uniquely wired musician who isn’t afraid to break the rules and push the boundaries of our perception with her deeply layered and well-crafted production.

Born and raised in Akron, OH, her drive, focus, and tenacity will lead her to become a relentless and emerging force in the independent circuit. Now based in Charlotte, NC since 2010, DJ Phoenix is making music that is driven by a desire to motivate, inspire, and tell her story her way.

DJ Phoenix grew up as a musically inclined child in a family that had varied musical talents. She began playing the keyboard and learned to play songs by ear. After moving to Charlotte she expanded her talents into production and would engineer studio sessions with various artists. After she began to earn various royalties from her exploits she chose music as the vehicle by which she would express herself.

She makes music that draws from her experiences and by using her musical acumen she articulates stories, emotions, and shared perspectives that will connect with audiences across the spectrum through her quotable lyrics, intricate melodies, and syncopated rhythms. DJ Phoenix combines various unique and experimental elements from various genres with her own innovative ideas resulting in infusions that are still firmly stitched together by emotive undertones.

DJ Phoenix cites her musical influences from Ryan Leslie, Kanye West, Timbaland, Zaytoven, and lyrical inspiration from Drake, Jhene Aiko, and Kendrick Lamar. This all culminates in DJ Phoenix producing an enjoyable, and easygoing musical experience that is authentic and grounded in reality. Her overarching ambition is to give people joy and happiness through her electrifying sets. She is driven by the desire to express herself fully and unapologetically through her music and to impact lives in a positive way.

DJ Phoenix has interacted with and learned music industry insights from renowned industry professionals such as Danny Clay, Teyana Taylor, Rico Love, Bryan Michael Cox, DJ Chuck T and #igot20onmybeat. All of whom she would love to collaborate with as well as others. She also previously opened a music studio dubbed Full Force Production Co as well as received coverage on the front page of the Business section of the Salisbury Post with the headline “Under one roof: Full Force Production Co helps launch music careers.” Full Force Production Co was a company who partnered with other local businesses in order to offer various services for our clients in one place, located in Salisbury, NC.

Currently, her most notable project is as the creator of the show “Da Phoenix Nest” in which DJ Phoenix will take her audience on a journey through interviews and various multimedia, teaching different aspects of business and marketing. The show will help build a bigger network for brands and artists to learn and grow as well as provide exposure to gain and grow sponsorships and advertisements.

Her upcoming projects in collaboration with Aalichaw Designs, Deena Carey, KeyMarieG and more will highlight her passion and love for music as an art form as well as her vision to establish a platform that will become a household brand. This talented enigma is here to reshape and leave an indelible mark in the industry… in full force.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride. Overall my main challenges at the time were maintaining finances and working with the right type of people to build a strong solid team. When started my business all I ever known and all everyone ever told me was to save money, pay things upfront and build clientele to earn money. I did that but it wasn’t enough to maintain and knew nothing about registering myself as a business via my artists name, I heard of building business credit but not via Net30 accounts. Overall it was a learning process and allows me to rebuild and rebrand better.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since moving to Charlotte in 2010, I have been active in music production, and vocal recording and currently got back into DJing.

I’m usually known as “the girl who was/is at the studio” or “the girl who makes beats”. I love that I am known for those things but I wish I could be more known as “THE WR1GHT the producer”‘ or “DJ Phoenix”. It’ll catch on more soon enough.

It just lets me know that I need to market myself by my aliases since a lot of people know me as just Morgan. I’ve also just started shooting with local production for a short series called One Way Out by Mod2 Productions. My character name is LT. Terry of the DEA.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe taking risks is important in becoming successful. In doing anything you have to be prepared mentally. I wasn’t always prepared financially once I started hitting roadblocks that flowed one after another in a domino effect.

In those challenging times, I had to stay strong mentally in order to maintain as best as I could. Building a solid enough mentally and processed allowed me to remind myself that it’s ok to have to start over, there is always a rebuilding period before the big bang.

I had people around me but they weren’t in my corner. I dealt with a lot alone because the situations were essentially what I had gotten myself into and many could not help in the ways that I needed. Staying headstrong kept me as balanced as possible when facing constant losses in starting my business. I know where I am supposed to be and where I am heading, my journey there just changes from time to time… but the end goal remains the same.
