Today, we’d like to introduce you to Nachela Knox.

Nachela Knox

Nachela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In my sophomore year of college, I decided to switch my major to film, and at that point in my life, acting was still my main interest. I found myself getting more and more interested in writing and directing. After the encouragement of my peers, I wrote and directed my first short film, “Hidden Agenda,” which I ended up winning Best Film and Best Actor at the CMF Film Festival at UNCG.

From there, I continued to act in films and directed/shot my friend’s thesis piece, “Tainted,” which was another milestone for me as that was the first time I was DP and Director of the project. After graduation, I found myself. I was at a crossroads as I had moved back home to Charlotte and was struggling to find paying film opportunities.

So, when the opportunity came to lead a film division in Winston Salem, I didn’t think twice about relocating. I helped create and became the head of G Davis Productions & Films. This experience helped shape what ” GoGetHer Productions” is today.

After about 2 years, I decided to start my own production company, “GoGetHer Productions,” and since then, the goal has been to continue to create quality and inspirational stories. My first feature, “Couch Party,” was released in 2023, and since then, I’ve taken on multiple features set to be produced this year and next year, and I will continue to keep building.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The road has been the complete opposite of smooth. I have had many setbacks and downfalls, from people betraying my trust to signing deals that weren’t the best and, of course, most filmmakers’ biggest struggle – funding.

The journey has not been easy, and it’s far from over. However, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences, each year I learn more about myself, and it is exciting to watch my business grow.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Director/Writer and Producer. I’m most proud of the fact that I decided to take that leap of faith and start my own company.

There’s a different level of satisfaction in knowing that you have full ownership over a super-creative film. I believe the way that I tell stories sets me apart from others. I like exploring ideas that are creative, not traditional, and ultimately different from what others do.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to start before you are ready and always trust your gut. Many of the opportunities that have helped advance my career, if I had sat debating If I was ready for it I would have missed it.

Take every opportunity, as the worst that can happen is that they say no. Take every opportunity to learn, and don’t be afraid to fail. Lastly, if the opportunity or the person gives you a bad feeling it is probably for a good reason, listen to that feeling in my experience its always been right.
