Rising Stars: Meet Pete Borsay of East Wake County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Borsay

Pete, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’d describe myself as an artist and printmaker, college art professor, and lucid daydreamer. You can add to that former rebellious punk kid and retired Marine Corps Veteran. Maybe “complex individual with creative tendencies” would sum it up. I’ve been making art-like things since before I can remember. When the teacher sent me home with a note about painting on myself and other kids in preschool I guess that was the beginning. I credit Bill Fick with Super G in Durham for really teaching me how to screen print.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t all been smooth. I put the visual artist part of me away for a long time to focus on family and service. Then there was the challenge of re-learning how to draw and turning ideas into artifacts. Hard work, determination, and pure grit has gotten me through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Screen printing and drawing are my primary creative outlets. Printing and creating graphic images allows me me to blend art and technique seamlessly. I’m proud of my ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome challenges in both my creative and professional endeavors. I’m comfortable working behind the scenes and letting my art speak for itself. As a college professor at East Carolina University and Louisburg College, I find immense satisfaction in inspiring and guiding my students. This balance of creativity and teaching fulfills me in ways I never imagined possible.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I thrive on creative thinking, always pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas. Experimentation is my playground, where I test theories and embrace failure as a stepping stone. I find joy in the absurd, allowing it to fuel my imagination and challenge conventional norms. By combining these qualities, I approach every problem with a unique perspective, unafraid to take risks and laugh at the unexpected. This blend of creativity, experimentation, and absurdity shapes my approach to life, making every moment an adventure. Through this lens, I transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
