Hi Phoenyx, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there! I’m Phoenyx – travel blogger, mom of five, and amputee. My family and I are based out of Eastern North Carolina and have been here since 2020. Prior to that, we grew up in Florida minutes away from beaches and a short drive to theme parks.
I love all the things – adventure, hiking, travel, spending time with my family, and a good cup of cappuccino.
Currently, I am on the path of learning to walk, hike, then run on my prosthetic leg. It’s been a journey so far, but I can’t wait to experience the new possibilities.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Reflecting on my journey, it’s clear that the road has been anything but smooth. Yet, it’s in navigating these struggles that I’ve found my strength and purpose. From a young age, travel was a part of my life, but it was often superficial – focused more on hanging out in the port our cruise visited than discovery and connection in our destination.
My awakening to the depths of travel came with a solo trip to Ireland, a journey that taught me the value of getting lost, of connecting with locals and embracing new cultures.
However, life’s responsibilities, particularly as a single mom, meant that extensive travel was often set aside. The challenges intensified following my life-altering motorcycle accident. This event not only reshaped my physical world but also brought with it a cascade of mental and emotional hurdles, including PTSD. Travel, once a source of joy, became a complex endeavor fraught with anxiety and physical limitations.
Dealing with constant pain and the constraints it imposed on activities like hiking and exploration was disheartening. I had to learn to travel differently, incorporating coping mechanisms like planned rest breaks, breathing exercises, and seeking online therapy to manage stress and fatigue, particularly while driving. Even with assistive devices, my mobility was limited, casting a shadow over my travel experiences.
The decision to undergo amputation was both a challenge and a liberating choice. Inspired by the stories of others who turned their injuries into opportunities for extraordinary achievements, I was determined to not let my physical condition define my life’s possibilities.
Through all these struggles, I’ve learned invaluable lessons. Each obstacle has been a teacher of resilience; each challenge a catalyst for growth. My journey is a testament to the idea that even the roughest roads can lead to the most beautiful destinations, both in travel and in life. It’s a story of overcoming, of finding joy in the journey, and of the profound impact that embracing each moment, no matter how challenging, can have on our lives.

Transformative travel didn’t just change my life; it offered a new lens through which to see the world. Driven by this newfound passion, I ventured into blogging with the creation of Phoenyx Travels.
Phoenyx Travels stands out as a beacon of inspiration, born from a journey back from the brink of death, offering a unique perspective that cherishes the often-overlooked wonders of our fast-paced world, and symbolizing a profound appreciation for life’s every moment.
What I am most proud of is not just the creation of the blog but its purpose. Phoenyx Travels was made to inspire others to heal and grow while focusing on important things like cultural immersion, connection, sustainability, and giving back.
The blog is a testament to the belief that travel can change lives, offering perspectives and experiences that enrich the soul. Even if it touches just one person, it makes all the effort worthwhile. This sense of fulfillment, not measured in traditional terms of wealth but in the impact on others’ lives, is what sets my work apart.
