Today we’d like to introduce you to Powell House
Hi Powell House, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are a group of six best friends, all of which have grown up in North Carolina. Four of us went to high school together in Charlotte, while our other two members hail from Gastonia and Jacksonville. One day in college while hanging out, we realized we had all the necessary instruments to form a band (after forcing Alan to play bass), so we started to play covers of our favorite bands for fun. From there, we were asked to play at our church’s Oktoberfest in 2022, which was our first gig ever. We were asked back to play at the 2023 Oktoberfest and shortly after, we took about a year long break. In the summer of 2024, we decided we wanted to start taking this more seriously. In September, we played our first official gig as ‘Powell House’ and have since released our first single, “Don’t Go” on all streaming platforms!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the main struggles we have faced has been finding times to practice as well as finding weekends we all are free for gigs. We all have full time 9-5’s and some of us travel often for work so that has been a struggle.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We started out just meeting at our church for fun, covering some of our favorite bands like Flipturn, The Backseat Lovers, The Strokes, etc. When we were then asked to play for our church’s Oktoberfest, we decided that we needed to learn some more popular music, so we began to cover a wide range of genres from classic rock to country to pop. Slowly over time, we started to write our own music, and are so excited to have officially released our first single “Don’t Go” on all streaming platforms. When it comes to our original music, we would generally consider us to fall under the “Indie-Rock” genre which is also what we specialize in covering.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Besides the overwhelming love and support we have received from all of our friends and family, we 100% would not be hear without the help of everyone from Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, NC. Not only are they the ones who gave us our first and second gig ever, they have also been so gracious in supplying us the sound and lighting equipment necessary for us to perform at our other gigs. Additionally, they have let us use their space for practice whenever it wasn’t being used. We seriously would not be a band without them and cannot say thank you enough.
