Rising Stars: Meet Ruth Steidinger of Triangle region

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Steidinger.

Hi Ruth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For more than three decades, I dedicated my career to education, serving in roles that ranged from classroom teacher to senior-level leadership. Those years brought me deep fulfillment but also revealed the challenges women often face when navigating leadership in environments that are less than supportive. My own experiences in a dysfunctional culture became a turning point. I realized I wanted to take what I had endured—and learned—and use it to help others not just survive, but thrive in their own leadership journeys.

When I retired from education, I stepped into a new calling: equipping and empowering women leaders. Today, as a certified leadership coach, speaker, and teacher, I draw upon over 25 years of leadership experience to help women find their voice, claim their purpose, and lead authentically.

Over the years, I have been honored to work with individuals and organizations seeking transformation. Whether through one-on-one coaching, workshops, or keynote speaking, my mission remains the same: to guide leaders in moving from dysfunction to health, from confusion to clarity, and from potential to purpose.

I believe the world urgently needs mindful, authentic leaders—especially women—who are ready to model a different way of leading. Leadership is not about titles or power; it is about service, courage, and the willingness to create cultures where others can flourish. My passion is to walk alongside others as they step into their leadership with confidence, resilience, and purpose.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While I loved my work in education and the chance to impact students and communities, my journey as a woman in leadership was far from easy. I encountered cultures where collaboration was overshadowed by competition, where women’s voices were too often dismissed or minimized, and where dysfunction was tolerated—sometimes even rewarded.

In those spaces, I often felt the tension between my commitment to lead with integrity and the pressure to conform to unhealthy norms. At times, I was excluded from key decisions or made to feel that my perspective was less valuable than those of my male counterparts. I witnessed talented women sidelined, overlooked, or driven out by systems that failed to recognize their contributions. The emotional toll was real—questioning my own worth, my leadership style, and even whether I wanted to remain in the work at all.

Yet, it was precisely those challenges that reshaped my path. I realized that my difficult experiences had given me unique insight into how dysfunctional cultures operate—and more importantly, how they can be transformed. Rather than allowing the obstacles to define me, I chose to leverage them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my work, I focus on helping individuals, groups, and organizations discover their potential and learn how to live and lead with greater purpose.

Through individual coaching, I help people gain a deeper understanding of themselves—both personally and professionally. Together, we explore how their behaviors, both conscious and unconscious, may be supporting or limiting them. I believe that living an intentional life is powerful, and my role is to help clients uncover the unique qualities that connect them to their purpose. From there, we work to tap into the tremendous potential that already exists within them.

With group coaching, I extend that same focus to teams and organizations. I guide groups in learning how to recognize and leverage each member’s strengths so they can operate more productively and collaboratively. Sometimes this means blending group and individual coaching to ensure alignment. When people are committed to building a highly functional workplace, the results can be transformational—for both the team and the larger organization.

I also design and deliver professional development experiences for both emerging and established leaders. Over the years, I’ve worked with students in higher education as well as seasoned professionals, creating workshops on core tenets of leadership. Each program is tailored to the needs of the participants and can range from a half-day session to a multi-day experience. My goal is always to provide practical insights and tools that empower people to lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

In addition to coaching and professional development, I’m passionate about speaking to audiences in a way that inspires meaningful action. I’ve had the opportunity to deliver keynotes and workshops at conferences, leadership summits, colleges and universities, and organizational events. Each engagement is customized to meet the needs of the audience, with topics that include:

How to Leverage Your Potential

Whether through coaching, professional development, or speaking, my work is about helping people and organizations tap into their strengths, overcome barriers, and create a more intentional path forward.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
1. Resilient
I faced dysfunctional cultures and personal obstacles, yet I did not let them break me. Instead, I worked to turn adversity into a source of strength and insight.

2. Authentic
I lead and coach from a place of integrity. I do not conform to unhealthy norms; and I work to model what it means to lead with honesty, purpose, and values.

3. Empathetic
My lived experiences allow me to deeply understand the struggles other women face. I believe this empathy allows me to walk alongside someone facing similar challenges, with the hope of seeing me as approachable, relatable, and trustworthy as a coach.

4. Transformational
I don’t just “manage” situations—I help reshape them. I’ve been recognized in my community for transforming dysfunctional work cultures into healthy, high-functioning ones.

5. Purpose-Driven
I work to consistently center purpose in my life and leadership. My passion, and I believe gift, is to help others uncover and align with their purpose.

6. Courageous
It takes courage to stand up against dysfunction, to step into leadership despite barriers, and to carve a new path. I believe I did that for myself and I want to help others see how they too can overcome their challenges.

7. Service-Oriented
My career and coaching practice reflect a servant-leadership mindset. I believe we all have a call to serve in some capacity. This, I believe, is my calling; thus, I feel a sense of responsibility to give back.

8. Visionary
I see leadership differently: not about titles or power, but about creating mindful, authentic, inclusive cultures.
