Rising Stars: Meet Simone Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Parker.

Hi Simone, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi there! Susie X Jo Socials is a passion project turned small business adventure. For years, I’ve enjoyed bringing family and friends together and hosting gatherings. I find joy in knowing I was a part of something that brought others laughter, happiness, and memories.

I spent several years dreaming instead of doing. I had always wanted to try my hand at event planning but never seriously acted in it until the pandemic hit. I had so much idle time and couldn’t get away from the thoughts of, “What will life be like once this is over?”

2020 and 2021 forced me to say, “I need to get out of my own way!” I wanted a chance – to do something I’ve never done and I started Susie X Jo Socials – The Picnic and Party Planning Co.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but definitely a rewarding one. This has been such a personal journey, I fully embrace all the roadblocks, learning lessons, and long days and nights.

I’ve never done anything like this and that can be scary. It was scary, but I knew I could do it if I said I really wanted to.

I learned the ins and outs of an LLC, I constructed a website from the ground up and invested in the business all before even officially launching. My days consisted of 12-14 hour works days from my job as a nanny right into prep work for the business.

It has involved saying “no” to things that no longer take priority that I usually would say yes to.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When I’m not designing and curating picnics or planning social celebrations, I am hanging out with my kid’s best friends. I’ve nannied for several years as well as taught NC pre-k and directed a childcare center.

I absolutely love working with kids and wanted to make sure with my business, I did not have to completely stop doing so.

The love and nurturing I give to my children as a nanny stems from the same place I create events. I truly love that I love what I do.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Social media is an awesome resource, despite how some may feel. I have made tons of great connections via Instagram that I’m very thankful for.
