Today we’d like to introduce you to Wyatt Crabtree
Hi Wyatt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always connected through music and it seemed only a natural progression to perform live and connect with others through song. I am a self taught guitar player and drummer and decided that the best way to share my music is by playing both instruments as a One Man Band, hence Joe’s Cousin One Man Band was born (named after my cousin Joe).
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Playing live music as a profession is very rewarding. Nothing beats an engaged audience singing along or clapping, cheering, and dancing to an original song or even a cover. It is one of the greatest feelings a performer can have.
Of course there is a downside and there are struggles as with any profession. In live music there are late night hours, long drives, and a schedule which puts me performing (working) on most days when people are off.
It can certainly be a grind but it is well worth it to me. I love what I do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I play guitar, drums, and sing all at the same time. It is literally a band but with just one member. Not very many people do that. I do not use any loop pedals or effects pedals. What you get is live and honest in that moment and can vary from show to show. I like to know that whatever energy is inside of me on any particular day will be given to my audience.
I play a wide variety of musical styles but am best known for Rockabilly and Honkytonk music.
What matters most to you? Why?
In music, what matters most is playing with integrity. Not being so hyper fixated on whether a note or a lyric was played correctly, but instead playing from the heart. What matters is sharing that feeling inside with those that are willing to lend me their ears and listen. It is important to give them all you have, whether playing to a packed house or playing for the bartender and a mostly empty room. If I can transport somebody through song to a different place, or a special place, or just help them forget about the problems of the day for a moment, I have done my job.
