Rising Stars: Meet Yenni Orellana of Fayetteville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yenni Orellana.

YENNI ORELLANA

Hi, Yenni. It’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us. To start, could you share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since I was a kid, I remember being in the kitchen watching and helping my mom bake cookies and cakes, which got me into baking. Since I was a kid, I remember creating recipes for breads and desserts, decorating cakes, cookies, and cupcakes, and creating smiles and happiness for my family and friends. Later in life, I attended my first cooking school in International Food; then, I traveled to Peru to continue my Pastry Art education. I have been living in North Carolina for close to two years. During that time, I initiated my own small business at home, baking cakes and various desserts, having many customers, and receiving a lot of compliments for the recipes. In the future, I would love to have my coffee shop and baked cakes to draw a massive smile on the customer’s face.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While starting my business, I had difficulty maintaining motivation daily. However, each obstacle taught me valuable lessons and helped me strengthen my determination and creativity to continue innovating. I learned not to give up in the face of challenges but to see them as opportunities to grow and improve my business and myself as an entrepreneur.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I dedicate myself to cooking as a chef specializing in culinary arts, focusing on Asian cuisine and modern pastries. I am known for my dedication to my craft by building my own business in the United States and applying all my knowledge and experience. I am proud of myself for moving forward and not giving up despite the difficulties in carrying out my venture. What sets me apart from others is my passion for cooking, specialization in specific areas such as Asian cuisine and modern pastry, and my determination to turn my passion into a successful business.

Before we let you go, we have to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
For those just starting in the world of baking and entrepreneurship, here are some tips I wish I had known when I started:

  1. Constantly learn, be creative and original, and find your voice and style in pastry. Experiment with flavors, textures, and presentations to stand out in a competitive market.
  2. Build a network of contacts; these connections can open doors to opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  3. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; mistakes are part of learning. Learn from them and move forward with determination.
  4. Maintain a balance between passion and business. While it is essential to love what you do, you must also consider business aspects such as financial management, marketing, and customer service.

Remember that every challenge is an opportunity to grow and improve.
