Story & Lesson Highlights with Courtney Tucker of Durham

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Courtney Tucker. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
integrity is most important

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Courtney Tucker, COO of Old Hillside Bourbon Company. I’m responsible for business operations, strategic growth, and brand development. I manage key partnerships, distribution channels, and marketing efforts to maintain the company’s reputation and market position.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my uncle Mike shaped who I am today. He was the first male figure that I looked up to in the business space! Mike was a savvy businessman who always encouraged me to reach further. I was a young teen living in Durham, North Carolina, with big dreams to one day make my mark on the world. His example made me believe that I could accomplish anything that I put my mind to!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self never to give up, keep moving, and you will get to where you need to be in life! There were many times in my life when I couldn’t see the end of the road, but I just continued to put one foot in front of the other and kept going. Eventually, you will get there, and when you do, it will be rewarding!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends will tell you that I’m loyal, dependable, loving, caring, and respectful!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand the importance of building relationships. In most cases, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. You have to treat people with the same respect you would want from them, even if you don’t receive it in return. What I mean by this is don’t compromise who you are, be your authentic self at all times!
