Good morning Jeanette, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am most proud of building a calm, positive, and resilient mindset. I am also proud of incorporating mindfulness into my interactions and business by being able to pay attention to people and details in the moment. This helps me acknowledge and respond to customers, chefs, retailers, brewers, and the community that I work with.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am one of the owners of Sea Love Sea Salt Co. My husband and I began salt-making over four years ago. We make solar evaporated sea salt from the water off of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. We are unique in that we focus on the process of solar evaporation. This retains all of the naturally occurring trace minerals present in the ocean and creates a high quality sea salt. I had never owned a business before Sea Love. I hadn’t thought of myself as an entrepreneur although I do come from a family of entrepreneurs. Once we got started I embraced it and have not looked back!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Many of my friends and my husband saw me as creative before I saw that in myself. Now that I am able to use my creative skills I recognize that they have been there all along. I feel grateful to have people that inspire me.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I miss the mountains out west. I love our Appalachian mountains but I miss the alpine lakes, the snow, and the beauty of the mountains especially in the Pacific Northwest. We lived there for almost 11 years before moving back to the South.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is being able to grow and change, to build community, connect with and preserve nature, and being able to care for my body and mind.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop planning for the future and let things unfold. I would also spend more time on nurturing relationships instead of building and making product.
