Jennifer Schlosser shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
A common misconception about my business is that we are simply another soap company producing everyday bath products. While soap is often viewed as a purely functional item, our work goes far beyond basic utility. Each bar we create is thoughtfully designed, carefully crafted, and visually composed with the same attention one would give to a piece of art. We see soap-making as a creative medium—one that allows us to experiment with color, texture, pattern, and form.
Rather than mass-producing identical products, we approach every design as an opportunity to tell a story and evoke emotion. Intricate swirls, layered palettes, and sculptural details transform each bar into a small, functional artwork meant to be admired as much as it is used. Our goal is to challenge the idea that everyday objects must be ordinary, and instead invite people to experience beauty in their daily routines.
By blending craftsmanship with artistic expression, we aim to redefine what handmade soap can be—an intersection of design, creativity, and purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an accountant by trade who discovered a passion for soap-making that evolved into a thriving creative business. My brand focuses on crafting all-natural soaps and skincare products that are as visually beautiful as they are effective. In addition to our personal care line, we offer a thoughtfully developed pet collection, including gentle shampoos and odor removers made with the same commitment to quality and natural ingredients.
Our storefront extends beyond traditional bath and body offerings. It serves as a curated marketplace featuring a variety of local artisan vendors who create handmade goods, allowing us to support small businesses and foster a strong sense of community. As our brand continues to grow, we are actively exploring the opportunity to open a second storefront in a neighboring city, expanding our reach while staying true to our values of craftsmanship, creativity, and intentional growth.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My understanding of hard work and integrity was shaped largely by my mother. During my early years, she navigated life as a single parent with remarkable strength and determination. I watched her shoulder responsibilities that often felt overwhelming, yet she never allowed challenges to define her or slow her down. No matter the circumstances, she showed up—consistently, reliably, and with unwavering resolve.
Through her actions, she taught me the true meaning of work ethic: perseverance when things are difficult, accountability even when no one is watching, and the importance of following through on commitments. She never took shortcuts, and she never gave up. The resilience and quiet power she carried set a powerful example, one that continues to guide my decisions and ambitions today. Her strength didn’t just support our family—it shaped who I am and how I approach every goal I set.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure has been one of the greatest obstacles in my life. Too often, I have hesitated to take risks, held back by uncertainty about the outcome. At times, choosing what feels safe has seemed easier than facing the possibility of being judged, laughed at, or embarrassed. This fear has influenced my decisions more than I would like to admit, often keeping me from taking the leaps that could lead to growth.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am fully committed to making my storefront successful and pursuing my dream of creating soap full time. When I discovered soap-making, I realized how much joy and fulfillment I had lost in accounting. What once felt engaging gradually became routine, while creating soap reignited my sense of purpose and creativity. This shift has clarified my goals and strengthened my determination to build a business centered around passion, craftsmanship, and meaningful work.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
When I find myself out of my depth, the feeling can quickly become overwhelming. I live with anxiety, and moments of uncertainty or discomfort tend to amplify it. When I’m placed in situations where I feel unprepared or unsure, that anxiety can take over, making it difficult to think clearly or regain my sense of balance. I often feel it physically, as a heaviness in my chest that mirrors the mental pressure I’m experiencing.
These moments can make even small challenges feel larger than they are, and they require intentional effort to work through. Over time, I’ve learned that acknowledging these feelings—rather than ignoring them—is an important part of managing them. While being uncomfortable can be difficult, it has also taught me the importance of patience, self-awareness, and resilience as I continue to grow both personally and professionally.
