Jessica Edwards shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Jessica , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy 1000% lol. It doesn’t lie and just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean you can’t feel it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jessica Sade. I’m a licensed esthetician, wax studio owner, and esthetics instructor. Right now, our specialty is intimate skincare, which is something I’m deeply passionate about. We’ve even created our own ingrown hair serum and are excited to keep expanding as a growing brand.
At Dahomey Goddess Wax Studio, we cater to women and focus on helping them embrace every part of womanhood — from confidence in their skin to the everyday realities that come with it. I’m also eager to step further into the teaching space and help shape the next generation of estheticians.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I believed that “good” things only happen to certain people. I was so terribly wrong. Good things happen to people that earn it and the people that keep working towards the goal.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I feel like so many people can relate to this but definitely the idea of being seen or perceived. With social media on the rise and owning a business you have to put yourself out there. That did not come easy for me. What I can say is that I’ve learned to embrace it and see everything as a mirror reflecting back to me. It makes it less intimidating and it allows me to see myself in others always. I’ve been really intentional about showing up more authentically and it has really helped me to see all the things that may me unique and that helps me to show up.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I wholeheartedly with zero doubt in my body and mind believe that every person is here to create something or leave some type of impact. From the smallest ripple to the most vast. I think we truly take existing for granted and every time I think about how intentional God created nature I can’t help but to think we were created with the same intent. Nothing is for no reason. I could just be a deep thinker too lol but even then I’d rather hold on to that idea then to believe I’m just here for no reason.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they say she never made me feel insignificant. She always showed up when it counted the most and she always said “you can totally do that” I hope people saw me as someone that just spread love even in the most simplest ways. The world needs more love. So much more.
