Tiara Wiley-King, NP-C shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Tiara , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
When I was taking piano lessons! I took them last year. And it’s been hard to find someone to teach adult learners ever since. I looked forward to every Tuesday evening, no matter how tired I was, because it was something I’ve always wanted to do as a child. I enjoyed it. I had fun at my recital. I miss it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Tiara Wiley-King, NP-C—a nurse practitioner, entrepreneur, and the heart behind two brands I love: Vis Ta Vie Wellness & Spa and King’s Nursing & Homecare. At Vis Ta Vie, we help people feel confident through weight loss support, body treatments, and wellness services. On the other side, King’s specializes in bringing hospital-level wound care right into people’s homes so patients and families don’t have to struggle alone. We also offer PCS (personal care services) and BH (behavioral health) services. For me, it’s all about making care more personal, accessible, and uplifting—whether that’s helping someone feel good in their skin or helping a patient heal where they’re most comfortable.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
For me, what I’ve had to release is the old belief that putting myself last was noble. I used to think I could pour into everyone else and still have enough left for me—but that mindset only led to burnout. The truth is, being “selfish” enough to put myself first has been the biggest act of service to others. When I’m whole, cared for, and at peace, I can show up fully for my family, my patients, my clients, and my businesses.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, there are days I feel like giving up all the time. When business slows down, when the referrals aren’t coming in, when the accounts are drying up—I’ve had plenty of “I’m done” moments. But I never actually quit because people are depending on me, and deep down I know my purpose is bigger than my problems. My pride, my faith, and my passion keep me pushing forward even when it’s hard.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
In the spa and beauty world, one of the biggest lies is that location doesn’t matter and people will always pay for what they want. The truth is, your area absolutely matters—if you’re in a community with lower median wages, it’s going to affect your growth and profits. There are also months that are painfully slow, no matter how great your services are.
In homecare, the lie is that there’s “enough sick people to go around.” It’s not that simple. Sometimes it feels more like a popularity contest—it’s not always about what you know, but who you know, and those relationships can make or break you.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes. For the longest time, my goal was to have “a million initials behind my name.” I chased degrees, certifications, and titles—and I got them. But when I finally did, I realized it didn’t automatically make me feel fulfilled. It taught me that success isn’t just about the letters after your name, it’s about alignment, purpose, and peace
